5 Business Card Design Tips Everyone Should Follow

Did you know that over 27 million business cards are printed daily?

Business cards are an essential component of your company’s marketing strategy. They enable you to engage with clients on a personal level and easily distribute contact information.

But business cards can also give potential customers insight into who you are as a company. In some cases, they can even compel purchase decisions.

If you really want to stand out from the crowd, spend some time developing a solid business card design.

In this post, we’ll give you the essential design tips you need for crafting a rock-star card!

1. The Simpler, the Better

Your business card isn’t your website. Nor is it a blog post.

A business card is designed to give clients a quick visual of what you are all about. As a result, when designing your business card, go the minimalist route.

Only include critical information, and try to stick to only the essentials. In general, effective business cards include a business name, your title, phone number, email address, and website.

Feel free to leave out any of those pieces if need be. A dense or wordy business card is often hard to read, uninspiring, and over-eager.

2. Reflect Your Company Personality

It is possible to infuse a business card with your company’s mood or mission. You can do this by choosing a certain color scheme, for example, or a particular font.

Ideally, the best card design will be consistent with the personality you’ve cultivated as a business owner. It may be in line with the design of your website, for example.

If you own a brick-and-mortar business, your card may mimic certain aspects of your company building.

3. Select an Appropriate Size

Not all business cards are alike. It’s possible to design square, circular, or even triangular cards!

When designing your card, choose a size that is appropriate for the details and visual you wish to convey. A circle card may look cool, for example, but it may not be consistent with how you’ve presented your company in the past.

Choose a size that can fit all of your contact information. In many cases, this may require a standard rectangular shape.

Most rectangular cards fit comfortably in wallets, too. Oddly-shaped cards may be more likely to get lost in a customer’s car or desk drawer.

4. Incorporate a Relevant Image

As humans, we are incredibly visual creatures. Give your customers something to remember by incorporating a relevant image in your card design.

This may simply be your company logo. If you don’t have a logo, there’s still time to craft one.

At the very least, choose a simple, clear image that resonates with your company work and values, and display this prominently on the card’s face.

5. Choose One Stand-Out Element

It is important to incorporate at least one element in your card design that can help you stand out from the crowd. This may mean a gold foil overlay, for example.

It may mean using a more luxurious cardstock base or an embossed font. Do choose something that is unusual, classy, and/or unique to add a finishing touch to your card’s essentials.
